FAQ:YSAM Degree and Job-prospects

What are the job-prospectus and employment related promotion opportunities for YSAM degree holders?

Yoga-Samskrutham Programs are aimed to Foster Excellence in the areas of Yoga, Samskrutham and Languages; and prepare the student to undertake a ‘Skilled Profession where the learning is applied to earn a living’. This is called ‘Entrepreneurship, Self-employment, Professional of Religion-Vocation, Religion-Ministry, Services and Counseling’.

For example, a graduate of Yoga from YSAM is expected to show ‘Application of Yoga – Tradition, to the current society in a practical way, to generate a profession, professionalism and a practical application which the student can use to earn a dignified livelihood ’. This is different from the mind set of holding an education award and seeking an employment. YSAM does not aim to contribute to the swelling number of ‘unemployable graduates’. If the employer, Corporate, Government or employment agency finds the need for having a ‘Consultant’ with appropriate skills in the area of Yoga, Samskrutham, languages, then they will invite and engage the graduates of YSAM.

Let us look at this issue from a different angle: What are the future and continuing jobs in global communities where Yoga, Samskrutham and Languages skills would be needed and will be looked at as ‘services to be obtained from a skilled trained professional for a payment’ ? Can Yoga and Samskrutham be engines of economy, job creating education? The answer for this question is a positive YES, Yoga and Samskrutham have the potential to create a profession and enterprise.

Health Care, Emotional Wellbeing and Spiritual seeking are perennial needs of Human societies and communities. Presently, Medicare systems and public health have provided excellent relief in Body related health care. The Religion schools through scriptures and theologies have partially addressed the emotional and spiritual wellness. Still the support system scenario for Total Health care on a global scale, to meet the expected standards of Total Health, as defined by World Health Organization is far from satisfaction.

The definition of Total Health from World Health Organization reads as follows: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. [Source: Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the International Health Conference, New York, 19-22 June, 1946; signed on 22 July 1946 by the representatives of 61 States (Official Records of the World Health Organization, no. 2, p. 100) and entered into force on 7 April 1948. The Definition has not been amended since 1948. ; http://www.who.int/about/definition/en/print.html ].

Since the late 1970s, the federal Healthy People Initiative has been a visible component of the United States’ approach to improving population health. The concept of the "health field," as distinct from medical care, emerged from the Lalonde report from Canada. The report identified three interdependent fields as key determinants of an individual's health. These are:

Lifestyle: the aggregation of personal decisions (i.e., over which the individual has control) that can be said to contribute to, or cause, illness or death;
Environmental: all matters related to health external to the human body and over which the individual has little or no control; Biomedical: all aspects of health, physical and mental, developed within the human body as influenced by genetic make-up.

The maintenance and promotion of health is achieved through different combination of physical, mental, and social well-being, together sometimes referred to as the "health triangle." The WHO's 1986 Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion further stated that health is not just a state, but also "a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.

This precisely is the emerging area where ‘Yoga related Global Jobs’ of future are going to be. On a similar line, the emotional and spiritual wellness needs professionals of Samskrutham and Languages to connect the current generation with the Sacred documents in Scriptures and Classical literatures, Prayers, Chants and incantations used in rituals and rites of passage. This is an important need of society to know the past history and benefit from the cultural spiritual heritage. Achieving and maintaining health is an ongoing process, shaped by both the evolution of health care knowledge and practices as well as personal strategies and organized interventions for staying healthy. This is the importance of grooming a ‘Yogi’ for the next generation as a ‘Healthy Ethical Cultured Spiritual Citizen of Nations’. Yoga Science is the science of Total Health Care and Total Wellness. Health is an important need for economic productivity and progress.

As on date, the corporate and Government institutions have not set any norms for ‘training or employing professionals of Yoga, Samskrutham, and Languages’ in the job-recruitment cadres. In India, the bodies like UGC have yet to evolve education and employment standards in the areas of Yoga, Samskrutham, languages and procedures to have equivalence evaluation of international degrees. May be the situation will change in the coming decade.

YSAM programs are not about training a student for a ‘government certified job on pay-roll and line of promotion’. The training is to output a professional of Tradition who delivers the Wisdom of Wealth and Welfare for society, functions as a next generation Trainer to Foster excellence of Yoga, Samskrutham, languages traditions, Groom Yogi’s of Next Generation, Be a Master of chosen tradition connected with Yoga, Samskrutham, and languages. If the employer /employing institution is ‘quality conscious’ and is willing to promote Quality Yoga, then automatically the student gets a ‘Consulting Job’.

We have noticed that many students take specific courses from us for self-improvement and advanced guidance in practices. Summing up, the functioning of Yoga-Samskrutham University is aimed to provide a global platform to deliver the 'Credentials of ' Guru-Kul' anchored Yoga and Samskrutham Traditions' in all its diversity and unified integrity, on a ' Global Platform Model of University for 21 st Century', using technology.

The YSAM Student needs to be willing to make a good living by Practical application of Learning in the program for ethical earning, a decent living standard and spiritual lifestyle; deliver social contextual benefits of Yoga as trained by the Guru-Guide and honor the tradition of Yoga set in Srimad Bhagavad-Gita, the source book of Yoga in VYASA tradition ,which has been praised by Swami Vivekanadna and Sri Aurobindo and a host of modern Yoga-Guru’s !
